Surveillance Services

MRI provides a pathology and virology surveillance service through the Scottish Agricultural College's Veterinary Service Division to the Scottish Executive Environment Rural Affairs Department (SEERAD). This contributes to surveillance of disease in Scottish herds and flocks, and thus to strategies for disease control and eradication.

Neuropathology and Reproductive Diseases (Principal contact David Buxton)

A central part of this service is the specialist pathology of conditions affecting the central nervous system of farm livestock, including the developing foetus. For further information about the pathology group please click here

Virology (Principal contact Kim Willoughby)

In addition to viral disease monitoring through SAC, the virology surveillance unit is an active member of the EU funded European Network on Wildlife as Reservoirs of Pathogens including Zoonoses, and participates in collaborative studies with Stirling University and the Game Conservancy.
